Sawbridgeworth had a setback when their influential right back Damien Green broke his foot during the week.
Central Defender Stefan Szajewski filled in at right back with Dicky Long in the middle. Both sides had chances in the first quarter hour. Tom Carter was just wide of the visitors goal after a good move by the home side. George Wappett created a couple of chances and was quickly identified as the danger man. This resulted in being floored twice and from one of the free kicks Anthony James shot was well held by Anthony Ladyman in the home goal. King's took the lead in the fifteenth minute when Danny Hutchins hammered in a cross from the left. Sawbridgeworth equalised just after the half hour when Ladyman fouled Billy Jones when the was about to shoot, Anthony James converted the penalty.

The home side regained the lead seven minutes into the second half when Joe Gallagher tapped in at the far post from a cross from the right wing cross. Pressure from the home side followed but the visitors set up a string of attacks. George Wappett and Adam Marsh were prominent. Sawbridgeworth equalised again in the eighty second minute when Anthony James scored his second from the edge of the area.
There was an unfortunate ending to the match as the homesides Jordan Toomey fell awkwardly and dislocated his shoulder, he could not be moved so play was held up for more than half an hour.
The referee decided as there was very little time remaining anyway to go straight to penalties as there is not extra time in in the first round of this competition. Sawbridgeworth won 5-4 after eight penalties were taken by each side. Sawbridgeworth's Bradley Simpson saved 4 and Ladyman saved 3.
