All the goal action took place in the first 13 minutes and the final 2 minutes. In the intervening hour and a quarter there were plenty of chances for more goals but the shooting was not up to scratch.

Sawbridgeworth went ahead after 5 minutes when George Wappett's cross found Scott Williams who beat Ashley Harris in the Borough goal from 8 yards out. The home side went further ahead in the 13th minutes, Mark Robinson rang 60 yards with the ball from in his own half to be brought down a couple of yards short of the Borough area. Mitchell Das shot the free kick through a crowd of players into the net. Borough should have pulled one back just before the break when home goalkeeper Tom Selkirk brought down Michael Deane after a race for the ball, he received a yellow card for it as the Borough forward's run was diagonally away from the goal. Cedric Lakole blazed the spot kick high over the bar.

The visiting side had finished the first half strongly with Sawbridgeworth under pressure but wihtout a shot of any note on target. Play was very even for the first 20 minutes of the 2nd half, then, Dewayne Clarke was dismissed by the Rainham Referee Dean Skipper, he had been fouled by Stefan Szajewski and had reacted violently. The Sawbridgeworth skipper received a yellow card. The resulting free kick was cleared.

With just 2 minutes remaining on the clock Mitchell Das scored his 2nd and in injury time the ten men scored a consolation goal with Anthont McDonald shot home from the edge of the area.
